Why maintenance and operations matter

Software ages even when nobody touches it. Frameworks get updates, vulnerabilities are discovered, browsers evolve and certificates expire. A website or web app that’s left alone after launch gradually becomes slower, less secure and harder to extend.

For businesses that depend on their software, that’s a real risk. Downtime costs enquiries and revenue; security incidents cost trust. Regular maintenance, monitoring and backups aren’t a luxury – they’re what makes an investment in good software pay off over time.

Then there’s ongoing development: business models change, customers ask for new features and search engines raise the bar. A partner who knows your system can respond quickly and cleanly.

How we look after your project

We choose infrastructure to suit the project. For websites and many Next.js applications, serverless hosting – on Vercel, for instance – is a great fit. For applications with their own database, background jobs or specific data protection requirements, we run containerised environments with Docker on dedicated servers, with PostgreSQL as the data layer.

Day to day, we monitor uptime and errors, apply security updates, keep dependencies current and back up data regularly. Changes are tested in a staging environment before they go live. Credentials and keys are managed securely and never stored in the code.

We can look after projects we’ve built ourselves as well as existing applications on a modern JavaScript or TypeScript stack. When taking over a project, we first get a clear picture of its condition, risks and any urgent issues.

Working together: dependable and direct

When something breaks, you don’t want to end up in a support queue. At Colyer-Commerce you speak directly with the developer who looks after your system and knows it inside out. That keeps conversations short and fixes fast.

We support clients in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the UK and across Europe – remotely, in English or German. We also run our own SaaS product, Vericaro, so we know first-hand what matters in day-to-day operations.

The scope of support depends on your project. After a free initial call you receive a tailored quote.

FAQ

Hosting, Maintenance & Operations: Frequently asked questions

Can’t find your question? Write to us – we’ll get back to you personally and promptly.

Where will my website be hosted?

That depends on the project. Many websites run serverless, for example on Vercel. Applications with their own database or particular data protection needs we run with Docker on dedicated servers. We agree on the right location together.

What does maintenance include?

Typically security updates, dependency upgrades, uptime and error monitoring, regular backups and smaller adjustments. The exact scope is agreed individually.

Do you take over projects from other developers?

Yes, provided the project is built on a modern web stack. We first review the code, infrastructure and risks, then discuss openly which steps are needed.

What happens if my website goes down?

Monitoring means outages and errors are detected early. We analyse the cause, fix the problem and restore data from backups if needed. Response times are agreed with you in advance.

How much do hosting and maintenance cost?

That depends on the infrastructure, the size of the application and the level of support you need. After a free initial call you receive a tailored quote.
